Unit 3 Abstraction – Process and Final Painting
Here is all the process work and research I did for this project. At the beginning I was nervous because I didn’t know how I would approach it. Once I got a better sense of abstraction and starting painting, I began to get really comfortable with it. This was a really exciting and fun experience.
Canvas Stretching
Here are the four sides of the canvas I stretched, it was mildly difficult because I had a lot of fabric and I didn’t realize how much it was get in the way while stapling. Fortunately I was able to stretch it well and use it for this project. It was a great thing to learn, and I know I will be making use of this skill throughout my career.
Painting Process
While taking small breaks, I took some photos of my painting process.
Final Painting
Here is the final painting completed. It took me approximately 5 hours to complete, it was all done (except the background) in one day.
Medium: Acrylic on gessoed canvas
Size: 4ft x 2ft
The intention of this piece is to invoke a feeling of calm, a calmness that comes when looking out over the ocean during a summers’ afternoon.
Photos of the final piece in all positions.
