Unit 2 – Final Post Photography Essay
Emerging Forms Of Togetherness in the Time of Covid
Written Reflection
The community I’m currently living in has many creative people and artists, this has resulted in a plethora of inspirational signs and fun animal cut outs on our cozy little island. Ever since the pandemic, people have been putting up these signs and animal cut outs to keep our locals together virtually – wooden chickens, zebras, cows, along with encouraging signs clad Sointula – reminding us to stay strong and to look forward to a time that will hopefully emerge soon. This is what inspired me to take these photos, for a community that is so heavily focused on gatherings and togetherness, they have still found a way to stay together.
The process of taking these photos took me all over the island, and in some cases brought me deep into the forest as I searched for the illusive cut out cow. Unfortunately, I was unable to find him along with his goat and zebra brethren but was able to spot a mama hen with her two chicks.
Throughout the days of shooting, I worked with and without a tripod as I learnt quickly that it is very useful to have a tripod when taking photos. Putting the essay together – I was very relieved that I took multiple photos – there were many colours to work with when editing. But these 10 photos are what initially made the cut.
